Skyactiv as well as many other GDI engines are known to have carbon buildup on the backside of the valves… even before your first oil change on a brand new car. Unfortunately, the Mazda Skyactiv factory air/oil separator is just not cut out for the job here and an additional catch can is needed to keep deposits from forming on the backside of the intake valves.
